Tongchun Mao

Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Facial aesthetic surgery · facial bone contouring · chin and jawline surgery

Dr. Tongchun Mao is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and head of its aesthetic surgery service at Chongqing West District Hospital, and he is the responsible physician for the chin augmentation content on this site. A core specialist formerly at the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Department of Xinqiao Hospital, affiliated with Army Medical University, he has rooted his clinical practice for more than 20 years and personally performs over 700 operations a year.

His facial practice covers rhinoplasty and nasal refinement, eyelid surgery, facial bone contouring of the cheekbone, jaw angle and chin, facelift and lifting procedures, and facial fat grafting — with a consistent philosophy: operate on the anatomy you have, change only what analysis justifies, and keep the result natural enough that nobody asks who your surgeon was.

Chin and jawline work sits at the centre of that practice, and the assessment is where he spends most of a consultation. Projection, vertical height, the relationship between nose, lips and chin, and the state of the bite are examined in that order, because the answer to a request for a stronger chin is sometimes a different procedure altogether — or none.

Clinical focus

  • Chin and jawline assessment, including the bite question and when to refer
  • Chin augmentation with shaped alloplastic implants and with autologous fat
  • Facial bone contouring: cheekbone, jaw angle and chin surgery
  • Rhinoplasty, including structural grafting with the patient’s own cartilage
  • Eyelid surgery, facelift and facial fat grafting
  • Revision assessment and planning after previous facial surgery

Academic roles & achievements

  • Member, Rhinoplasty and Trunk Tumor Groups, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Member, Chongqing Medical Aesthetics Quality Control Center; Member, Chongqing Medical Accident / Disability Assessment Expert Pools
  • Deputy Chair, Chongqing Shapingba District Medical Aesthetics Committee
  • Published 5 SCI papers, holds 7 national patents, and has participated in 4 research projects
  • Repeatedly named an Outstanding Young Physician at Xinqiao Hospital since joining in 2005

The operations a surgeon declines

More than 700 operations a year counts only alongside selection. Every chin consultation is also a decision about whether an operation should happen at all, and the patients who are told no are part of the judgement you are hiring.

Shaoliang Wang

Shaoliang Wang (王韶亮)

Director, Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center · Vice Chief Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine

Center leadership · surgical standards

Dr. Shaoliang Wang is Center Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. He leads the team in which Dr. Mao practises and carries responsibility for the centre’s standards of surgical planning, safety and follow-up.

For patients, the Center Director’s role is the guarantee that an individual surgeon’s plan sits inside a departmental system: standardised preoperative assessment, anaesthesia delivered by hospital teams, and defined follow-up after every operation.

Clinical focus

  • Center leadership and multidisciplinary case review
  • Surgical standards, consent and follow-up
  • Hospital-based support for complications that need theatre-level care
Ke He

Ke He (何锞)

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Team physician · non-surgical alternatives

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and head of its skin and laser aesthetic service. Within the chin team she provides the non-surgical perspective: whether a temporary filler trial would answer the patient’s question before any operation is considered, and whether the skin over the intended area is healthy enough to treat.

Clinical focus

  • Non-surgical assessment and temporary filler trials
  • Skin health over the intended treatment area
  • Vascular safety and complication recognition
Yongbo Jia

Yongbo Jia (贾勇波)

Deputy Director & Head of Dermatology · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Team physician · skin health

Dr. Yongbo Jia is a dermatologist in the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center. Within the team his role is the skin itself: medical assessment before treatment, management of acne and barrier problems that would complicate healing, and dermatologic care of the skin after a procedure.

Clinical focus

  • Medical skin assessment before elective treatment
  • Diagnosis and management of pigment and barrier conditions
  • Dermatologic care of skin after a complication
